Both the men’s reigning Olympic champions, a Tour de France winner, a host of world champions and several previous Absa Cape Epic winners will be in the South African stage race’s strongest field yet when it kicks off on Sunday.
Fans stamped their feet and cheered vigorously when Maurice Mdlolo and Gugu Zulu – the Absa Cape Epic’s final finishers on Sunday crossed the line. The pair were mobbed by flashing cameras and well-wishers patting them on their back.

After two days of extreme weather conditions Stage 2 of the Absa Cape Epic was shortened to 62km. Instead of riding the 102km to Elandskloof near Greyton, riders finished at what would have been the second water point for the day at the Botanical Gardens just outside Caledon.
The Absa Cape Epic is proud to announce a renewed partnership with the world’s largest multiplayer online training and racing platform, Zwift, that builds on the successful relationship that was developed in 2019.
Crashes in both the leading teams at the Absa Cape Epic could not unseat either from the top of the overall standings, but the top men did have their lead more than halved during Thursday’s 43km Time Trial stage at Oak Valley.
