The Western Cape is home to many magical and beautiful places, and the Overberg is one of them.
Located within a short drive of Cape Town's City Centre, the Overberg is home to rugged mountain ranges, wild-growing fynbos, rolling meadows and canola fields, and breathtaking vistas of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Stretching from Gordon's Bay to Vermaaklikheid and Cape Agulhas to Genadendal, there are 25 towns within the Overberg region and it is an adventure seeker's paradise as it offers amazing 4x4 trails, hidden fly fishing spots, horse riding, golf, and of course mountain biking!
Falling within the Cape Floral Kingdom, the region is home to a wide range of animal and plant species alike, often unique to the area, and endangered. The prolific ocean life includes the Marine Big 5 and the abundant presence of one of the members has led to one of the coastal Overberg towns officially being the Great White Capital of the World. The area's unique flora is also home to hundreds of endemic bird species including the endangered Black Oystercatcher, Eagles, Kingfishers and the national bird, the Blue Crane.
The FNB Wines2Whales is proud to call the Overberg home and the route showcases many of the region's historic and beautiful trails as it winds its way from Lourensford Wine Estate, to Oak Valley Estate, before heading coastward to Benguela Cove near Hermanus.
Teams tackling the FNB Wines2Whales can expect to enjoy incredible views, a wide variety of flora and fauna, incredible trails, and the region's warm hospitality!
